The awards season this year will be quiet, but the Namene Solar team are looking back on a year of impact, after winning the ‘Innovative African Business Model of the Year’ Award.

Namene’s business model was praised for its innovation and unique approach to providing scalable, solar powered products and installations to customers to power their lives and businesses.

The British Award for African Development (BRAAD) is a business and development forum that recognises and highlights the exceptional achievements within the African Diaspora that focus on innovative business ideas and entrepreneurship.

The awards ceremony was held on 24th October and showcased industry expertise and thought leadership across six categories: Business & Enterprise, Community and Social Development, Innovation & Technology, Diplomacy, Media & Entertainment, Finance & Technology.

As full service solar specialists, Namene Solar scooped the award for delivering affordable, scalable solar solutions and portable solar lights to customers across Africa.

The BRAAD awards celebrate and recognise businesses that place economic, social and governance (ESG) commitments at the heart of their business model, in order to deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and provide long-term sustainable solutions.

Namene Solar is committed to providing energy access that eliminates harmful emissions from kerosene lamps and cuts CO2 from fossil fuel and diesel generators, whilst remaining affordable and reliable for our customers.

Since winning the award twelve months ago, Namene Solar has been working to deliver scalable solar power solutions, from award-winning portable lights to deploying end-to-end solar systems in schools and businesses in Kenya and Ghana.

Namene Solar installed a 400 kWp the solar plant, commissioned in October 2019, to Kasapreko Bottling Facility in Ghana. The system supplies 570,500 kWh annually to support the power needs of the facility.
